Disc Golf differs from most sports, in that it can genuinely be played anywhere.
From a simple game throwing frisbees to a pole or a bin in a park, to launching a huge drive down a sculpted fairway on a championship course, the places we play are key to shaping the future of our sport and the next generation of players.
Disc Golf For All recognises the challenge of creating new places to play. With the UK having a far higher population density than popular Disc Golf countries like the USA or Finland, it can be difficult to secure agreement to use land for what is still a niche sport. Alongside our other work, we have established a process for engaging with councils and land owners to overcome the obstacles to course installation. Each success we have builds momentum and a body of evidence for the next discussion, leading to yet more opportunities and a wider reach for the sport.
From installing Leicestershire's first permanent course at the amazing Sysonby Acres Leisure Park in Melton Mowbray we have continued to work hard and as of Jan 2026 we are working on 4+ new courses, with more on the way.
The basic stages of our process are laid out below:
Identify the area where an opportunity lies
Make initial contact with local sports development and open spaces teams
Present a clear picture of the benefits Disc Golf can bring whilst also responding to the natural reservations which stakeholders may have.
Create an initial design using our S.T.E.P. design process
Demonstrate the way Disc Golf works alongside other land uses
Work to get agreement on the important aspects - funding, final designs, operating model, safety precautions etc (This is the hard part!)
Play testing and installation
Community engagement and club formation
